J.D. Salinger: The Catcher in the Rye
That killed me. If you're looking for an insightful story told by an "un-phony" teenager, there you have it. Personally, the main character, Holden Caulfield, reminded me of myself, growing up, as he tries to understand why adults have lost all things he adores about his younger sister, Phoebe. If you really wanna hear about it, Holden is kicked out of school and finds him self erring, avoiding as much as possible an encounter with his parents, which can only be upsetting, to say the least. He leaves his "phony" school, earlier than scheduled, and finds himself wandering around New York, not knowing what to do. With his shrewd observation and a cunning sense of humor, Holden explores sexuality, alienation, maturity and many questions that every teenager confronts at a critical age. This is a good book that might appear destined to teenagers but that is equally accessible to adults.
